Procurement - Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

The Procurement - Mechanical Engineer defines and executes commodity and supplier strategies for mechanical systems and components, aligning sourcing activity with project needs and cost/performance targets. The role drives supplier selection, quotation analysis, and risk mitigation to ensure reliable supply, quality, and on-time delivery. Core responsibilities include technical evaluation, bid solicitation, contract terms support, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, procurement, and operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop and implement mechanical procurement strategies for assigned categories to achieve cost, quality, and lead-time targets.
• Prepare and issue RFQs/RFPs, evaluate bids, conduct total cost of ownership analyses, and recommend preferred suppliers.
• Review technical specifications, drawings, and BOMs to identify sourcing alternatives and risk factors.
• Lead supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and corrective action plans for non-conforming parts.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to validate compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Negotiate price, terms, and delivery schedules; draft and finalize procurement agreements and change orders as needed.
• Manage supplier risk, including capacity, lead times, and market price volatility; implement mitigation plans.
• Ensure procurement activities align with project schedules and manufacturing demand plans.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of procurement or supply chain experience in mechanical components, with demonstrated success in strategic sourcing.
• Proven experience with supplier qualification, RFQ/RFP processes, and contract negotiation.
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) and procurement analytics tools; advanced Excel skills.
• Professional certification in procurement or supply chain (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) preferred.
